My sister Anna, appendicitis and our apple tree

This is my beautiful, creative sister Anna. She loves animals (reptiles in particular), insects and photography. Especially photography of late. She is eight years younger than me, so I remember her as a baby with gentle hands liking to touch our eyelashes while drinking her bottle. She has a pet bearded dragon named Johnny and dreams of going to Australia to visit the Australian Zoo founded by the Crocodile Hunter. Since becoming an Aunt (Aunt Anna… like antenna! Heh. Not funny. Sorry.) she decided to visit us here in Winnipeg to meet her new niece “that still has that fresh baby smell!”. But the second day here, she suddenly contracted acute appendicitis and needed emergency surgery. Considering she visits us roughly once a year and that the odds of having acute appendicitis is about 7 percent, the common thing to say is: “What are the chances?” Fortunately having a brother (or two) good in math can answer that question. John figured it out on his cell phone at the hospital… it’s 0.006 percent. The ironic thing in all of this ordeal that has prolonged her visit, is that she can’t hold anything over 5 pounds… including Marie-Hélène.

This is the apple tree in our backyard that, three years after being planted, has finally produced apples. Two apples. One for me and one for Christian. Don’t steal ‘em. We think they will be the best tasting apples in the world.
