Tomatoes

Last year Christian and I decided to use the space along the garage, so we planted 12 tomato plants and 6 sweet pepper plants. We’d tell people and they would look at us and reply “TWELVE tomato plants?” as though we were planning to supply a nearby market. And despite our quantity of tomato plants, we didn’t have that many tomatoes. A new one would ripen, and it meant we’d have a toasted tomato sandwich for lunch… not “get out the canner, we’re making salsa”. But this year… This year we don’t know whether to credit the rain, that seems to have puffed them up like red and green water balloons, or the variety, but we might consider holding our own La Tomatina festival.
