Millenium Centre

Friday night, we attended a wedding and later a reception in Winnipeg’s Millenium Centre. It is a beautiful historic building, originally a bank. There are columns, walls and floors of marble, an impressively high ceiling that fascinated Marie-Hélène, and details that inspire some kind of reverence for beautiful old things…

We had enough time to take it all in because our soup arrived a little after seven o’clock. We’d resigned ourselves to eating like the Europeans… But then, we finished our salad as the bar across the street was cordoning off a section of the sidewalk for the partiers that would arrive. By the time the main course was on the table, the roosters in Kabul had already crowed. If it wasn’t for little details, like etiquette, self-consciousness and official wedding photographers, I might have spent all the time taking pictures of the place…
